Colombia: it’s big, it’s beautiful and it has some of the most stunning beaches in the whole of South America. It may not be at the top of your bucket list but there are so many reasons why you should visit this amazing nation. Sit back as we guide you through the very best Colombian beach destinations!

Capurganá

Capurganá is a remote village on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Any nature lover should have this beach on their list, its quiet bays are backed with dense rainforest and the waters are perfect for snorkelling and diving. Make sure you do some planning in advance to get here though, as the whole village is car-free and is only accessible by air or water. It’s a great place to go if you want some peace and quiet, where all you can hear are the crashing of the gentle waves and the wildlife tucked away in the forest. If you decide to go here, make sure you pay a visit to Aguacate Beach, also known as Avocado Beach due to its emerald-green water.

Playa Blanca at Isla De Baru

Just southwest of the city Cartagena is a small island that can be accessed only by a ferry from the mainland. Once you dock in Isla De Baru, you’ll be greeted with stunning shorelines with white-sand and clear, blue water. All of these attracts locals and tourists to the island, once you’ve set up shop and found your quiet place, buy a cocada (a sweet coconut treat) from one of the local vendors and relax!

Tayrona National Park

Tayrona National Park is one of the most beautiful places in the country; it’s also home to some of the best beaches in Colombia. The golden-sand beaches boast beautiful backdrops of thick rainforest and behind that rise the steep hillsides of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the world’s highest coastal mountain range. Relaxing on Tayrona beach really will be a chance of a life time; you’ll have the opportunity to spend the day on an undisturbed landscape, witness tiny islets covered in thick vegetation and become at one with the environment. It’s not to be missed!

Playas de Providencia

One of the most idyllic Colombian beaches is Playas de Providencia, which is located on a tiny island that has been largely untouched by tourism. You won’t find any buildings here, instead you can expect to find massive coconut palm trees, mangroves and the off small shack or restaurants selling beer, pina coladas and the freshest of seafood dishes. No need to worry about too many people being on the beaches here, it’s so quiet that the only things that will disturb you are the turtles swimming in the calm waters.
